Jail Stripes- DW(Z)

Ugh. Cold weather. How I hate you sometimes.

But today was warm and inviting, and I had to do a fashion shoot, now that uni has started and I can start procrastinating again. It also helps that E is back and can be my photographer/stylist.

Enjoy folks,

The Dove Effect - SC

In 2004 Dove launched the Dove Campaign for Real Beauty celebrating the 'real' woman's beauty.
As part of its campaign was the 'onslaught' ad.

Dove's parent company Unilever also owns Lynx, creating the greatest partnership since let's see...how about Batman and Robin?

Incorporating only Dove and Lynx ads,

But Dove does have a point.

In one study, American women were asked to choose what their ideal build was and what they thought the build most attractive to men was. Women chose slimmer than average figures for both choices, though when American men were independently asked to choose the female build most attractive to them, they (the men) chose figures of average build, indicating that women may be misled as to how thin men prefer women to be. (Wikipedia)
Only 1% of Australian women consider themselves beautiful. (The Gruen Transfer)

Not to fear. In reality,And it ain't just me.

A-list actresses and flawless supermodels also got the thumbs down from men aged between 18 and 35 (SMH).

Find it on the second level of world square. Well worth the wait. Even if it was rated top 10 in the world by New York Times in 1993.

Deep Regret- DW(Z)

Regret. It's one of those unavoidable things that we hate to admit we have felt. I would like t declare to the world that I, in fact, hate this bag: Balenciaga City. I hereby curse you. :( It makes me incredibly sad that I still think about this bag, even though it's been a good 6 months since I've turned my back on this unattainable $3500 baby in HK. I even returned to the damn-ned Joyce 4 times to consider this absurd item.
I wanted it in either the Black or Magenta :( I regret getting the stupid Fendi bag that I don't use and is so impractical, but I'm glad I didn't have to suffer the terror that is my dad's wrath. ARGH wretched bag! Why have you forsaken me!

ALAS

Anyways, onto more inspiring fashionable goodies- I think when I have attained a sizeable income, I shall purchase one of these babies: Herve Leger by Max Azria dresses:

Are these the most SEX dresses you have ever laid your eyes upon? Body hugging, but in the most flattering way, bandage dress/skirt I love you.

And, the feathers.. how can I resist? It's delicious.

Finally, apologies for the lack of outfit posts. I feel uninspired, and I lack a photographer. E shall return shortly from his ski trip so I shall enslave him to be my photographer, and hence, posts shall continue shortly.

Reasons to Ditch the 'Sex and the City' Movie - JL

So.Scenario.

Your girlfriend wants to watch the movie but her 1st choice partners in crime a.k.a her BFFs are all busy or overseas. Her 2nd choice option was you. Yes you!
And you need an excuse. What on Earth are you going to do now? (btw please excuse my shocking paint job on the above picture!)

1. What's the time Mr Wolf?
Just tell her, a watch defines a man's character and you need to save up for one of these babies!

Bulgari - $6 900

Omega Seamaster NZL- 32 - $4 800

Rolex Yachtmaster 2 - $39, 150
(WOW!)

2. Gossip Girl

Don't want her to find out? Just stay at home and watch the scene where Serena gives Dan her raunchy Christmas present for the 15th time! (No nothing about GG? Check out DK's review)

3. Rather Wait for Entourage!

Lloyd! Wheres my entourage!?

Derailed by the writer’s strike, it is suppose to be back on air by early September. So fingers crossed!

4. Miranda Kerr > Movie
Tell her you are with the boys, watching Miranda Kerr on the Victoria Secret Fashion Show for the 5th time. Mmmmhhhmmm..... Miranda.....

5. Coldplay
Save the 13 bucks on the movie ticket and buy this album!

Do not be fooled! Contrary to the title of the album, this isn't Ricky Martin's new 'Greatest Hits' album. Rather it’s the heavily anticipated 4th installment from Coldplay. Two years in gestation, 'Viva la Vida' shows a resurrection of the their old style, yet it mixes in with an experimental birth of something fresh and revitalizing. It could be simply described as orchestral, upbeat and electrifying.

Personal Favourites include:

Viva la Vida, Lovers in Japan, Lost and Strawberry Swing.

Why Baron Why! - DK

OK most people don't follow the NBA or even care about it, so I'll keep this short and simple.

B.Diddy is leaving the Golden State Warriors (my favourite team), and he's going to the LA Clippers!!

He's like, their best player as well..what is going to happen to the Warriors now, theyre not even true contenders for the playoffs anymore...Oh well, I still believe.
And I forgive Baron...only because he's Jessica Alba's good friend =)

Show em hows it done in LA, B.Diddy. Good luck
We'll be missing you in GSW...(Just like P.Diddy :p)

Next Level Shiat (Director's Cut) - AT.

Let's talk about some real TV shows - SC

The semifinalists for the the Emmys are out and there are 10 shows for each Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Drama Series categories.

I like to think of myself as a popular culture/contemporary television connoisseur (ie. couch potato), made possible by the lovely people at sidereel, Chinese youtubes and well, the whole bloody Internet. The restraints of time and Internet caps mean I cannot possibly have seen all 20 shows but I do know, there is a lot of quality out there. And Gossip Girl does not come close.

Here are just three of the best you can even find on free-to-air Australian television.

Channel 7's
To start with the obvious. Boston Legal is an amazing platform for raising an amazing array of issues, not always legal in nature but always socially important. David Spade has got to be one of the most underrated actors of his generation and sometimes I forget he's acting when he goes into one of his long monologues in the courtroom. All that and at its core, it's a comedy series.
To be fair it loses much of its consistency in the fourth season with an overhaul of characters but in recognition the fifth season has been announced to be the last. William Shatner's last stand if you will, after almost half a century of television fame.

Channel 9'sIf ever there was a milf...though she reminds me of an Ellen Pompey, in that she suits her role perfectly, but it doesn't require so much acting prowess.
Weeds isn't just great for its brilliant scriptwriting and plotlines, but its entire premise is completely different. A middle-upper class single mother plying her trades as the local pot dealer (though this makes serious developments as the show progresses). Probably what makes this show worth watching is the co-stars. Her kids, friends and co-workers are the ones with personalities and the source of the humour.

Channel 10's
Wikipedia classifies it as a 'dark comedy', 'police procedural' and 'psychological thriller'. I classify it as freakin' awesome. You only have to watch the opening sequence to realize that this is a show with class.
Channel 10's ads have been purposefully vague. Based on a book, Dexter Morgan is a forensic blood spatter analyst, and a serial killer. Sounds corny yes, but it has been consistently highly reviewed by critics, and me.
Given the nature of its content, the version to be shown on Channel 10 will be slightly edited. Which is a shame.

So. Watch some good tv shows shall we?

They try to make me go to Rehab i say.. -AT.

Strategists move to replace Iemma

July 5, 2008 - 9:05AM - Source SMH

Labor strategists say they are moving to replace Morris Iemma, fearing the party will be wiped out at the next state election if he stays on as NSW Premier.
You bet your ass that the Labor Party is facing imminent wipe out. Iemma is a joke. A man that knows only to smile and to give blank stares to the people. Obviously he has deviated from the people's representative approach - who in their right mind would privatise electricity? Wtf is that? How do those working class people cope with private electricity bills, Mr Iemma? Step aside, junior.

GG - DK

No, I am not talking about the gaming term "good game," I'm talking about the TV show "Gossip Girl."

Before all of you guys start jumping to conclusions, thinking gossip + girl = a show JUST for girls, its not, even though the title may suggest so.
If you like the OC (and the OC's target audience was not purely females) then you'd like this as well.

Also, let me tell you that two of the manliest men on this blog, JL and DK watch this, so thats saying something...

So I won't give too much away. Basically its set in the Upper East Side,
New York, where all the rich kids live and they do whatever the want with the money they have.
Anyway, its much more than about money...you got the whole mix of friendships, relationships, cheating, partying, conflict, fighting, breakups, etc.
You get the typical average kid who falls for the rich girl and try to make things work.
You get the uptight rich girl who loves to cause trouble.
You get the hot boyfriend who's just...hot.

I just probably made this show sound crap, but its not as crap as it sounds! Although it sounds like a typical television series, its just something about the show that just makes you keep watching it.
So if you got the time, then give it a go.

xoxo

Donating money is a crime, what is wrong with the world? - LT

From SMH,

"Residents in one Indonesian city who give in to the tug of guilt could face three months in jail under a law criminalising giving money to beggars and street children, the city's mayor says.
The new regulation approved last month by the legislative council in Makassar, South Sulawesi, is aimed at reducing the city's swelling population of beggars, Mayor Ilham Arif Sirajuddin told AFP.
"Under the law, people who give money to beggars will be jailed up to three months or have to pay a maximum fine of 1.5 million rupiah ($A170)," he said
."

Encroachment of individual freedom anyone? I do what I like with my money thank you very much. If any consolation, this government kerfuffle does not suck as much as the Epping Road stuff up. However as an afterthought, at least Epping Road is promoting use of public transport...unlike that particular Indonesian government who wish to deprive the poor of donations to implement 'work rehabilitation' programs. Yes. That totally doesn't spell total flop.

The Devil Wears Prada - LT

Or rather, the pope wears prada?

Coincidentally, the pope was also named accessorisor of the year. Wow. But hey, he is after all the figure head of the catholic community. Who can blame him for being a trendsetter?

Just to contextualise, the more you look at those shoes the less they look designer. The pope did release a statement that those red shoes are to represent the blood of matyrs. However the brand is still undisclosed and I'm sure millions of devout catholics are knocking at the local peddlers window, custom ordering these flashy shoes.
